National Register of LGV Instructors

The National Register of LGV Instructors was established and launched in December 2016 as a replacement for the DVSA’s voluntary LGV instructor register and the RTITB register of professional instructors, both of which closed at the end of 2016.

The vision for this new, DVSA endorsed not-for-profit register is to further professionalise the HGV/LGV training industry by offering a single register that meets the needs of the whole industry.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) endorse and oversee the new register through their role on the governance committee, whilst RTITB operate it.

The Responsibilities of the governance committee:

  • Agree examination standards
  • Agree criteria for exam centres
  • Review examination results and pass rates
  • Conduct annual audit of Register operator (RTITB)
  • Act as the appeals panel for individuals wishing to appeal their examination results

The objectives of the register:

  • To agree and maintain a set of standards for the skills and underpinning knowledge required to be an effective LGV instructor
  • To improve the standard of LGV instruction available
  • To improve the standard of LGV instruction available
  • To contribute to an improvement in the national pass rate of LGV vocational tests
  • To contribute to an improvement in the national pass rate of LGV vocational tests
