Hundreds of the best forklift operators from around the world entered the International Forklift Operator of the Year contest, which is partnered by UniCarriers and McCue. The 40 forklift drivers with the highest scores from an initial online test were advanced to the next stage of the contest at IMHX (the International Materials Handling Exhibition) in September 2016. Following a number of practical, theory and pre-use tests, just 12 safe, skilled operators were selected by the judges as grand finalists.
At Talent in Logistics, these 12 grand finalists will compete in various live challenges in front of an audience of their colleagues and peers, as well as conference visitors, in a bid to win the esteemed title of International Forklift Operator of the Year. This includes 4 practical driving tests: “A-maze-ing Operators” (featuring a truck with Bale Clamp attachment from supporter B&B attachments), “Victoria Falls” (sponsored by Transaid), “Crazy Golf” and “The Chemical Factory” (sponsored by Pyroban). There is also a test of the forklift drivers’ knowledge, entitled “Bullseye” and a pre-use inspection titled “vital check”, all tests are scored using the new Accrediting Bodies Association of Workplace Transport (ABA) Basic Operating Skills Test.
Visitors to Talent in Logistics can look forward to witnessing the most diverse Grand Final in the competition’s history. For the first time ever, female forklift operators have qualified for the Grand Finals of the competition, alongside the youngest competitor yet, an 18-year old apprentice engineer. It is also the first time an international competitor has reached the Grand Final, with the reigning India Forklift Operator of the Year moving forward to the next stage.
The winner will be announced on the evening of the 22nd June at the prestigious Talent in Logistics Awards, alongside 15 other industry awards. The awards are being held at the Telford International Centre and are being hosted by stand-up comedian Tim Vine. The awards are not to be missed and allow you to network with industry leaders, peers and potential customers plus enjoy a glittering evening of dining and entertainment.
